The Pyramids of Giza!
The last surviving wonders of the ancient world. I had the chance to visit Giza/ Cairo way back in 2011. They look far more impressive close up, when you wonder how in the world did the ancients manage to haul such stones into this shape! The city of Cairo is now coming uncomfortably close to the plateau on which these pyramids stand, but on the other side is all desert. The Pyramids are so big and set high up that they are visible from all around the city. Makes for a dramatic contrast!
There are three main pyramids, and the Sphinx, along with smaller pyramids. You can go inside the tombs for a separate fee. The history is well documented so I wont go into that here. As expected, there's a lot of hustling around this area- its always buyer beware here. That's a bit of a sad part here and to some extent in India as well. You always have to be on your guard even as you enjoy the Pyramids. Don't miss the light and sound show every evening unless it rains!
