Africa : Around the continent Tour in a Cessena C172

I have always wanted to a round the world tour. Unlikely I will ever have the money ( I have and will make time for it!). But I can do the next best thing : a round the earth trip in flight simulator 2020!

So heres the plan.

Africa first. As a continent, its most underrated, poorly understood and suffers from terrible public perception, even though its standing in global environment, culture, business, agriculture and wealth is well known. The lack of respect shows right through history: It was always the "white man's burden" to bring civilsation to Africa. Not always true, but the victors write the history.

By that measure, how much did I know of Africa? I have only been to Egypt and South Africa, arguably two of the continents more developed economies. But I looked inside and even I didnt know how Africa looked like really. So, given all that I thought it would be just as appropriate for me to start a round the contient tour of Africa.

So here's the route:

I started from Gibraltar and flew across the pillars of Hercules into North Africa (morroco), and then followed the nothern coast all the way to Memphis and Hurguda on the red sea, and then onto Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, the rain forests, and down the coast to Cape Town, passing by Harare. Then round Cape of Good Hope and go north again, past the Skeleton Coast of fearsome legend, Angola, Congo, Nigeria and the pother countries, and back up the coast to end at Tangier, where I has started.

My aircraft of choice is the Cessena C172, with a speed of approx 130 knots (Rs 190-200 km/hr). On the entire trip, I will navigate from airstrip to airstrip within the range of the Cessena, often finding the next airstrip from Litle Navmap. These airstrips can be anything from large runways to sand and dust markimgs. And thats where the thrill and romance of flying lies.

From a height of between 1000- 2000 feet, I expect to see the land; i expect to see not just deserts but also forests, swamps and game. I expect some weather will play spoilsport especially near Mt Kilimanjaro, but lets see!

I have started off and after buzzing the Pyramids, am currently parked at Memphis, Egypt. I have taken photos and screenshots which I will post here- wherever I took.

Tangier , Morrocco till Abu Simbel, Egypt- about 6000km

So Africa, the continent of wealth beyond measure, of romance ever found, and thrill of power of nature, here I come!
