The Nile River : Fascinating, mysterious, historical, Life giving!

A jigsaw mosaic of fields! No wonder rivers are revered as the lifeline of empires!

The Nile River is the blue ribbon on the top of the photo. the dark blue waterway is a canal. Just see the impact of the Nile on the very nature of the land! This photo was taken when I had left Cairo towards Luxor, following the winding Nile.

Just look the impact the Nile River has on Egypt! As you fly down the narrow sliver of green fields producing the food for Egypt, between the yellow-brown-ochre colour of the Sahara Desert, you realize how critical and vital is this river in Egypt's culture, life and economy. Egypt was the grain bowl of the ancient world which is why most emperors including Alexender and the Romans wanted to either align with it or rule it. Egypt could, and did, play the most pivotal role in empires. And all because of the Nile and the land that it watered on its banks! Few rivers hold the fascination of generations like the Nile!

The Nile river delta is about 240 km east to west from Alexendria to Port said on the northern coast, and about 160 km from Alexendria to Cairo in the south forming one of the largest and most fertile river deltas in the world. I followed the river all the way. Often the boundary between the desert and the greenery was sharp and clear- fascinating!
