Aswan Dam, Egypt : controlling the Nile

Fron Luxor, I continued following the Nile to the Aswan dam. This is the location at which the nile was dammed by the huge Aswan dam, raising the waters upstream and causing flooding of several villages and the famous Abu Simbel temple, which was moved stone by stone to a higher level. This Dam has more or less controlled the annual flooding of the Nile, and stands early 3km long and over 111 meters tall. The resultant lake, seen behind the dam is called Lake Nasser. The dam also changed some of the nutrient capacity of the soil downstream, causing fertility declines, as well as increasing water evaporation due to the larger surface of the lake.
